As a result of the recent resignation of its music director, St. Mary Basilica Parish is announcing an opening
for the position of music director/organist. Ideally, the applicant will be a practicing Roman Catholic, proficient in
organ and piano. St. Mary Parish, with 650 families, also has Cathedral School (690 students preK3 12th grade).

Vocal training and choir conducting is desired. The position, ideally, includes training of volunteer cantors
and developing a children’s liturgical music program. Candidates must be able to work collaboratively and have an
understanding of Vatican II and the music traditions of Catholicism. The candidate must engage the congregation in
active liturgical participation.

St. Mary Basilica was constructed in the 1840s to be the cathedral for the newly formed Natchez Diocese. It
was designated a Basilica in 1998. It has a Moller organ (1958), rebuilt in the 1990s, wonderful acoustics, 6 second
reverberation. Salary commensurate with training and experience. Applications for full or part time positions will be
